    • @TheSASurvival
      @TheSASurvival 7 місяців тому

      Not a fan of generators, fuel too much noise etc… this being said we have 1 but really never use it, i understand cost over functionality but there is something about using free energy ( not the cost to get it mind) but prices are coming down. From Apr-Oct when the trailer is parked, the fridge is on 24/7, even in the driveway or camping and we never plug in and everything is fully charged all the time, might take an extra day if we have a wet/overcast day but i have been surprised how long the batteries last. Longest was a week ( as we used our small trailer for our main vacation) in semi shade and we left to go home with 60% left in the batteries. Super happy.

    Correction to your video; the outlets turning on automatically with the truck is NOT using the generator mode alternator. It's using the regular alternator, that's why it shows starting up only in 400 watt mode. Also, just a little nit-noid thing but modern power is 120v or 240v, not 110v/220v for phraseology.

    • @TheSASurvival

    First video I’ve seen with the inverter and inverter batteries shown uncovered - thank you! You seem to be using a lot of 120V devices, but for 12V devices like the powered cooler, ham radios, etc that would ride in the truck or bed I wonder if tapping those rear seat AGM batteries would be a good source. Theoretically it would be isolated power with its own alternator

    • @TheSASurvival
      @TheSASurvival 11 місяців тому

      The radio i guess i could have done that, i just went into auto mode and powered them as i always had, but yes i never thought about the 2 rear batteries wired in series, i could have used 1 of them for the radio, the fridge needs power 24/7 when we are traveling and i do not know how long they would last as they are quite small, hence the use of the additional 140Amp Lithium batteries being charged by the 110 onboard sys. The 110 devices are more because we can because of the 2KW sys on this 2022 otherwise i would not normally, but it seems endless now other than space, air fryer, microwave, ice maker (which we are going to try on this years trip). Thanks for your comments.

      @@TheSASurvival I have a ‘22 Tremor with the 2kW system and have been thinking through these same use cases. My portable fridge will take 12V, 24V, or 120v with a wall brick. 120V worked just fine like you said on our last road trip, but learning that I have a 2nd alternator putting out 24v gets the ideas flowing… Agree with you though, the batteries look small and probably wouldn’t last more than an hour or so. And who knows what Ford software alerts we’d deal with if those batteries aren’t happy at ignition.

    • @TheSASurvival

      Exactly, i leave it running on the 12v and run a battery charger to the batts to charge when driving, i was switch from 110 to 12 but often i would forget when i stopped and it became a pain, so just stuck with 12v, better to have cold food.

    Hi, great idea & video. Question: is the structure a square or did you have to go with a trapeze shape to make the crossbar fold back on itself? Are the two arms rage same length?

    • @TheSASurvival
      @TheSASurvival Рік тому

      It is just off of a square, the arms that attach to the trailer all the same size and the one in front is slightly longer, this just gives us lots of room to be able to have a shower without being entangled with them tarp, I cut the U bracket in a shape that it enables it to push over itself to be folded. It’s kind of hard to explain and it doesn’t show very well in the video but that’s what creates that shape when you push it to one side, push one of the arms inwards and then bring the other side back over itself. I hope that makes sense.

    • @kamranharandy3738
      @kamranharandy3738 Рік тому

      Thank you so much. I’ve really been struggling to get the arms to fold back onto themselves, as the crossbar seems to want to push back when at the near 180 degrees angle & before the arms can turn back onto themselves. Trial & error is the process it seems!

Either we have a thermostat failure, design issue, or some other anomaly we haven't figured out yet. In a month we leave the RV park in FL so I will have our two BB batteries installed in our Imagine TT and also hope to have our Renergy 20-amp DC-DC charger installed in the truck for real amperage coming from the truck. So far we like it all, but we have to take it all back to the dealer to replace the skylight that the technician broke when he stepped on the skylight. Cheers, Davey & Sheila

    Never saw or heard of a penny stove like that. Also idk if that split on the side was on purpose or accidental. A penny stove is just 2 bottoms of a "coke can" cut at an equal size and shoved together. No need for a wick. Well if anything as a "wick" would be to take a big piece of steel wool an sandwich it in the middle between the 2 cans when you're putting the penny stove together. You pour a good amount of fuel in the center and and you light it. Let it burn for a a shirt bit and the flames should reach the edges where you have the hole punctured. Once that's done than you put your coin in the middle over the center holes.

    • @TheSASurvival

      I am not following , sorry. The 1st stove is exactly as you have described. In between I actually used loft insulation rather than steel wool. I am not sure where the split is you spoke about. The 2nd stove is the fancy feast stove with no penny on top.

    Enjoyed your prior videos on your rig. We are purchasing a new 2022 Reflection 260 RD. The 12v fridge is my biggest concern in our purchase. Besides the lithium battery upgrade, did you also add an inverter?

    • @TheSASurvival
      @TheSASurvival Рік тому

      I was not offered the Solar upgrade but i would have done it myself anyway. I would say yes you will get a 100amp Lead acid battery. I was and am still contemplating a descent inverter. I have added a 1200w pure sign wave inverter but it is not big enough and i have to manually switch things over from shore to inverter and vis versa. That is why i have not created a video, i want to see how this goes. I would like to add a Victron Inverter/charger sys but the cost is a bit high, i was given another sys to look at by my local solar company and this is the Kisae BIC1230100, 3000w inverter/100amp charger and switch, which i am still pondering. Have not got there yet. By the way the fridge is awesome, now i have got over my anxiety

      You have a good eye, this is Fords abbreviated info “The DC/AC inverter has a self-protection feature for the following conditions: Short circuits on the inverter output circuits - If the inverter detects a short on the output circuit(s), it shuts down. If the self-protection feature is activated, the green LED indicator flashes and the DC/AC inverter does not provide power output to the AC power point. If the LED is flashing, the problem must be corrected before DC/AC inverter operation will resume.” AC wiring cannot work the same in a car as a house, the ground would be through the DC side chassis ground and you are correct there is no AC ground on the 3 prong receptacle. So the above kicks in.

It's a vehicle, & the golden rule is... if it's not grounded to the frame/battery bad things or nothing at all can & will happen. ▪︎ It's a roll of the dice @ that point when the ground is open & actual circuitry is hush-hush golden goose territory. ▪︎ I'm not willing (my pockets aren't as deep as FMC) to break warranties for others, or tread blindly down paths, but this inquiring mind would like to know the fix. Inverter, vehicle, battery not as compatible as believed, any component just a bad fit as in a design flaw? Unfortunately time (not all can afFORD) WILL tell. Note: please excuse any typos

      I would agree but i have not run into this problem…… Yet. With regards to your Q, I came across this info from a Ford forum when doing research on the 2Kw says and there was not too much out there, hence the 3 videos to help others gain some knowledge. But then it gets too deep for me. Sys seems to work well and i do try to keep my eye on the over load and cables being run.

      @@TheSASurvival I'd think seeing as by direct reference from Ford, those type outlets should never be used to carry a normal load, but to charge Only within designated parameters. With that it would be highly unlikely even used properly the Amber Indicator would fall mute. ▪︎ Saying that, everything you say seems to be positive, appreciated & helpful to the 2kw F-150 genre. 👍

      Many thanks for your Q’s, i am glad it will help, but as a Non household electrician and trying to wrap my head around it you are right, i looked at the 20amp on the cover and try to stay below that and not to over load it. I did try my AC on the GD Reflection as it has a low amp compressor but it runs for about a min then shuts down, it does run the fan HI/Low speed but not enough to run the AC, this a was done only yesterday, and all the overload protection worked great and as described above, but again i have not come across a faulty cable or lightning strike….. Hope not to.
